My professional Golf career began thirty five years ago at a new state of the art championship golf course. Within five years, I was appointed golf course superintendent, a position I held for over ten years. As my career took me to older, more established championship golf courses, I became more intrigued with the design and construction of courses. Having visited and studied hundreds of golf courses, I realized golf, in its purest form, has little to do with large clubhouses, expensive maintenance equipment or million dollar budgets. Golf is a game that teaches life's values and rewards good, hard work and dedication.
In designing Hickory Ridge Golf Course, I wanted to focus on the purity of the game and on nature. Hickory Ridge provides the golfer the most natural golf course in the Texoma area, and is totally dedicated to the true "Spirit of the Game". Hickory Ridge is neither "tricked up" nor contrived. It is designed to use what Mother Nature has created for us to enjoy, however, Hickory Ridge Golf Course is maintained in USGA competition style.
Although one of Golf's original intents is to teach self reliance (in managing a round), many subtle, natural features will guide your game throughout the course. Hickory Ridge is a "play all day" course as it offers much natural beauty to enjoy - Dogwood in the Spring, wildflowers in the Summer and wildlife all year round.
Our goal at Hickory Ridge Golf Course and Golf Learning Center is to teach golf values, including golf etiquette, USGA rules, and various ways to play/manage the golf course; in general, to raise the golfer's awareness of all that is involved in golf courses.
The basic amenities are in place and Hickory Ridge is growing and expanding all the time, a true work in progress! If you really really , really love the game of golf, come join us for a round and grow with us.
